I forgot to take my pill for two days straight—am I still protected?

Hi PlanBCebu,

I’m 21 years old from Lapu-Lapu. I’ve been using birth control pills for almost 5 months. Everything was going smoothly, but this week I got really busy with work and completely forgot to take my pills for two days straight. When I realized it, I panicked. I took one pill right away, but I’m unsure what to do next. Should I take both pills now? Should I stop?

Also, we had sex the day before I missed the pills. Am I still protected? Should I be worried? Please help. I’m really anxious.

💙 Our Team's Response:

Hi Forgetful but Faithful,

Take a deep breath—this is something we can fix. Missing two pills in a row can reduce protection, especially if you had sex during that time.

Here’s what you should do:

  • Take only the most recent missed pill as soon as possible (up to two in one day).

  • Skip the earlier missed one—don’t double up on both.

  • Continue your pack as normal.

  • Use backup protection (condoms) or avoid sex for the next 7 days, as your hormones need time to catch up.

  • Since you had sex before the missed pills, we recommend taking an emergency contraceptive pill just to stay safe.

You can get it quickly and discreetly from morningafterpillcebu.com. No judgment, just support. This wasn’t a failure. It was a human moment. What matters is how you responded. And you responded with responsibility. 💙
